Description: Jalvetas, also known as Indian Willow, is a medium-sized deciduous tree that grows up to 15-20 meters in height. It has a slender trunk with smooth, grayish-brown bark that peels in longitudinal strips. The leaves are lanceolate, narrow, and finely serrated, with a light green upper surface and a paler underside. The tree produces small, yellowish catkins, which are the characteristic inflorescences of willows.
Occurrence: Jalvetas is commonly found in the Indian subcontinent, particularly in the northern and central regions. It thrives in moist, riparian habitats such as riverbanks, streams, and wetlands. It is also found in Nepal, Bangladesh, and parts of Southeast Asia.

Mode of Action: Jalvetas’s anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties are primarily due to its salicin content, which is metabolized into salicylic acid in the body. Its astringent properties, attributed to tannins, help in tightening tissues and reducing bleeding, making it effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea. The flavonoids and phenolic glycosides contribute to its antioxidant effects, protecting cells from oxidative stress. Additionally, its antimicrobial properties help in fighting infections, and its wound healing properties promote tissue regeneration and reduce inflammation.
