Description: Padmak, commonly known as Wild Himalayan Cherry or Indian Wild Cherry, is a deciduous tree that can grow up to 30 meters in height. It has a smooth, reddish-brown bark that peels off in horizontal strips. The leaves are simple, ovate, and serrated, with a glossy upper surface. The tree produces beautiful, fragrant pink or white flowers in clusters, which bloom in early spring. The fruits are small, red to black drupes that are edible.
Occurrence: Padmak is native to the Himalayas, ranging from Himachal Pradesh to Sikkim in India, and extends to Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of Southeast Asia. It typically grows in temperate forests at altitudes of 1,200 to 2,400 meters.
